The Pyro's a playable character in the game Team Fortress 2, one of the biggest FPS online communities in history. It's gender is unknown, as much as how Valve likes to play around with the community's beliefs on it's gender. It is still undetermined, though showing signs of male attributes and feminism. It wears a gas mask, wears a red jumpsuit, a belt with smoke grenades attached, an oxygen(?) tank, rubber firefighter gloves, and rubber boots. It's a delusional creature, seeing brutal murder like giving candy to orphans. The delusion is commonly known as "Pyrovision", where it sees a world of rainbows, laughter, kittens, etc. When it could really be a harsh war. Due to an episode of Game Theory, a series that debunks and solves game physics (Such as Samus Aran's Morph Ball), the tables turned with the Pyro's gender, saying it's likely a homosexual male, though it is not confirmed. 6 years later after the events of Saxton Hale losing his job to Gray Mann, the Pyro becomes CEO of a corporation, however, instantly quit his/her/it's job after seeing a building lit on fire, encouraging the arsonist to start playing with fire once again. The Pyro's suit is fire resistant, making the pyro strong against fire.

The Pyro's strategic structure in-game is based around ambush, hiding in corners or sides of doorways and ambushing unsuspecting enemies, leaving them in a fiery death. The Pyro is also useful for spychecking, normal teammates wouldn't be effected by a friendly pyro's fire, but disguised spies would burst into flames, leaving them completely visible, even when their cloaking is active. The Pyro's flamethrower can also deflect projectiles, such as rockets or grenades, using airblasting, firing compressed air out of the flamethrower. Airblasting also works on enemies, useful for pushing them into a hazard, and airblasting can extinguish a burning teammate. The Pyro uses 5 different Flamethrowers: Stock, Backburner, Degreaser, Phlogistinator, and Rainblower. The stock has no bonuses or downfall, the Backburner does more damage from behind, the Phlogisitnator is the most unique one, being a futuristic flamethrower that instead fires waves of extreme heat that can disintegrate an enemy, it can also perform a wave of crits if it did enough damage, and the rainblower enables pyrovision, resembling a fantasized brass instrument that can shoot rainbows from it's tip.

The arsonist appeared in many other games as a promotion to TF2, it has appeared in L4D2 (on a fast food box), Killing Floor (Unlockable character), Poker Night (On a deck of cards), Sonic and Sega All Stars Racing: Transformed (Along with the Heavy and Spy), Worms Reloaded (Unlockable mask), and Monday Night Combat (Unlockable mask and DLC oxygen tank).

In a Portal 2 video for building test rooms, a scene will scroll through an office, and if looked closely an employee is seen watching "Meet The Pyro", before it's release at the time.

"Pyro, call me crazy, but I think we just adopted ourselves a SUPER baby. Well, if it's buried under all these weapons."
"I fear no man, but that THING, it scares me."
"One shudders to imagine what inhuman thoughts lie behind that mask, what DREAMS of chronic, sustained, cruelty."

Ah, Merde.  *sees the RED Pyro and vanishes, silently creeping away from the incinerator*
"Need smoke."sees the man "Psst hey man do you have a fire source on some thing?I am low on smoke abd fire"
The delusional merc turned and faced the mysterious stranger. Just hearing the word "fire" built up excitement in the arsonist, so gladly, the Pyro held up his/her/it's flamethrower. "Mhmm!"
